Membership to the Coorong Environmental Trust is only open to representatives of organisations and businesses with a professional, financial, physical or legal commitment to the ecological wellbeing of the Coorong.
Organisations who meet this criterion are invited to nominate a suitable representative for membership of the trust. Under these rules, representatives per organisation are limited to one person and one vote per organisation. Where appropriate for a specific meeting a member can nominate a proxy, who will be treated as the named member, for the duration of that proxy nomination.
Application
Any entity applying for membership of the trust must satisfy the Trustees that they are committed to the wellbeing of the Lakes and Coorong Ramsar site, prior to admission into the Trust.
The Trust may require any evidence as is reasonable in the circumstances to underpin this commitment. This may include, but is not limited to:
- Constitutions
- Mission Statements
- Trust Deeds
- Strategic Plans
An expression of interest to join as a member must be made on the Membership Expression of Interest form found below. A statement of commitment is contained within the membership form, which must be signed by the named representative of the applicant organisation.
If you are interested in applying for membership please complete the form and return it with your constitution, governing rules or some other evidence of your organisation's purpose to: info@coorongtrust.com.au
If you require further information or have any questions, please call Faith Coleman 0419 823 286 to discuss.
Rights & Liabilities of Membership
Membership of the Trust does not confer on a member, except as may be provided by the Act, any right, title or interest in any real or personal property of the Trust.
Except as provided by the Act, a member of the Trust is not liable to contribute towards the payment of the debts and liabilities of the Trust or the costs, charges and expenses of winding up of the Trust.
Approval
Approval for membership of the Trust is made by the Board of Management constituted in accordance with Section 11 of the Act.
The Board of Management reserves the sole right to approve or decline an application for membership.
Members Contribution
While the Coorong Environmental Trust does not have a fixed membership fee, Trust members are expected to contribute toward the operation of the Trust in a manner that suits their means, the degree to which they may benefit and intended involvement.
This contribution could include financial contributions (via donations or sponsorship) or in-kind contributions through volunteering, community science or outreach, research, land access or lending equipment to aid in the ongoing monitoring and research identified as required by the Trust. There is a section on the membership form to outline what entities see as their potential involvement and contribution to the functions of the Trust.
